General Questions/New to Joomla! 5.x • Edit Login Form

Hi there,

I have searched for solutions to this and have tried a few different avenues but not having any luck.

I just want to be able to edit/customize the login form for my site.
  • Instead of "username" I'd like it to say "Email".
    I'd like to remove the "forgot username/password" links.
    I'd also like to add a button to the top for an option to SSO.
I have tried working with the override files for:
templates/themis/html/mod_login/default.php
and
templates/themis/html/mod_languages/default.php

Entering:
MOD_LOGIN_VALUE_USERNAME="Email"
COM_USERS_LOGIN_USERNAME_LABEL="Email"

Trying to get something to stick, but nothing updates.

Any tips or resources for any of the above items would be appreciated!
I have made edits like this to login forms in the past, but it was directly to the core files and of course older versions of Joomla.
